Day 1

So, we visited 4 orphanages today. They were all amazing. We had a young mother´s home, a transitional girls home, a trnsitional boys home, and the baby home. My favorite was the home with the young mothers and their children. The saddest part was leaving the babies, because the cried when we left. All these kids just want to have some attention and to be loved.

We went to the grocery store today and exchanged money and bought food for this next week. It´s 7.5 Quetzales to the dollar. Everything is a little bit cheaper, too. I got to help one of the girls, Amy D., order icecream. She didn´t know any Spanish and I did, so I got to order for her...lol. Their cheese is made from goat´s milk and so it tastes funny. Also, they have so much more powered milk and condensed milk than normal. I probably won´t be drinking any milk this month.

The weather is actually not as hot as I thought it would be. It never gets above 80 is what they told me. It was kind of chilly tonight, but it wasn´t too bad. It is the rainy season but it only rained for a little bit today when we were playing soccer. I´m just going to let my hair curl because it´s so humid.
It´s amazing because these kids are so willing to play with you and hug you. When you say hello and say goodbye, everyone kisses once on the cheek. We were joking about doing it when we got back home, so if I accidently do be prepared. The picture is me on the roof of the house we´re staying in overlooking the neighborhood.
We leave tomorrow for HueHue. Our VBS stuff is kind of organized but kind of not. So, just be praying that everything works out and that everyone is flexible. Another thing I love about these kids, especially the young mothers, is that the are so open and love learning about the Lord. This is incredible and I am very blessed to be here. Please keep us all in your prayers. I don´t know when I´ll be able to post next, but I love you all and I´m praying for you.
Love,
Kirby
